Single-Cell Genomics Consultant

From challenging samples to polished results.

I guide teams on single-cell and nuclei sample prep, application development, and QC advisory and analysis.

With 20+ years of experience and 20+ peer reviewed publications, I can help your team successfully navigate end-to-end single-cell workflows.

How I help

Three kinds of engagement. Most start with a short call to work out which one you actually need.

Single-cell Workflows

for biotech R&D teams

Sample Prep Guidance

For teams whose starting material fights back — solid tissue, FFPE, frozen, or precious low-input samples that won't yield clean cells or nuclei.

  • Tissue dissociation and nuclei extraction protocols
  • Troubleshooting viability and debris content
  • Go/no-go criteria before samples reach the instrument

Platform Selection and Method Development

For teams choosing between platforms, or who already have one on the bench and need a working assay built on it.

  • Vendor-neutral comparison for your sample type and question
  • Benchmarking runs and evaluation design
  • Assay development and hands-on team training

QC Strategy and Analysis

For teams with data in hand who need to know whether it's sound, and what it will take to make the result defensible.

  • QC metrics and acceptance criteria for your runs
  • Troubleshooting doublets, depth and data artifacts
  • Clustering and annotation review before conclusions land

Emerging Technologies

for platform and tools companies

Technology Landscape and Application Evaluation

For platform companies and investors deciding whether a new technology is real, where it fits, and which applications are worth building first.

  • Competitive benchmarking against established platforms
  • Application roadmap — which use cases to build first
  • Technical diligence on scientific claims

KOL and Customer Outreach

For platform companies who need a working scientist — not a sales engineer — in front of the labs whose adoption decides whether a technology lands.

  • KOL identification and relationship development
  • Scientific demos, seminars and workshops
  • Early-access and evaluation program design

Litigation Support

for attorneys and legal teams

Expert Witness Testimony

Data interpretation and lay translation.

  • Biochemistry
  • Genomics
  • Genetics

How I work

  1. 01

    Start with the decision

Most engagements begin because a decision is stuck — which platform, whether the data is trustworthy, why the samples keep failing. I want to understand the decision before I look at the protocol.

  2. 02

    Work at the bench level

I have run these platforms myself, on difficult samples, at scale. Recommendations come with the protocol detail needed to act on them, not a summary slide.

  3. 03

Leave the team able to repeat it

I have spent years training customers on instruments in their own labs. The goal is that your team can run it again after I am gone, without me.

About

I have spent twenty years on the technical side of genomics and oncology research — first in academic labs studying transcription and epigenetics, then at the National Cancer Institute leading functional genomics work on rare variants in cancer and bone marrow failure syndromes, and most recently at Levitas Bio, where I led R&D on sample preparation methods for single-cell and single-nuclei genomics.

That last role is where the consulting work comes from. Building applications for a platform meant being in customer labs constantly — running demos, installing instruments, training teams, and troubleshooting the samples that were not behaving. I kept meeting groups who had bought a single-cell platform and could not get clean data out of the tissue they actually cared about. That is the problem I am best at solving.
